Long Week

This was a rough week for all of us. It started off with Luke getting Thrush, which was caused by the antibiotic he was taking for his ear infection. Brad brought the medicine for that to daycare, but he swallowed some of it and it made him sick. So Brad had to take him home for the day and he had to stay home the next day too. Luckily he didn't get sick again. So on Wednesday he went back to daycare and things were looking better, even though his cough still sounded bad and his runny nose had returned. On Thursday afternoon the daycare called and said he had a rash all over his body and that he got sick again so we had to pick him up. I was really nervous about this rash so I made an after hours doctor's appointment for him that night. When I picked him up he had red dots all over his body. The nurse practitioner who saw him said the rash was a side effect of the antibiotic, but it was nothing to worry about. She also said his ear infection was still bad, so we had to get a different antibiotic. He also had a really bad cold. They let him use a nebulizer while we were there and that helped his breathing alot. They gave us one to take home too. He was cleared to go to daycare the next day, but when Brad tried to drop him off they told us he needed a note from the doctor to return. We didn't have one so Brad went to pick one up, but by that time Luke seemed to be feeling pretty bad. Brad decided to stay home with him so he could get some good rest and alot of TLC. It was a good move because the poor little guy just slept on Brad most of the day and hardly ate anything. Let's hope next week is alot less eventful!

He is doing better today, but he still has a little while to go. On a positive note he tried some home made sweet potatoes tonight and he really liked them.

Time for a doctor's visit

We had our first sick baby visit at the doctor's office yesterday. Luke's been coughing for a few days so they said to take him in. I think we're pretty lucky he's had 6 1/2 months of good health, considering he's a preemie and he's been in daycare for so long already. It turned out he had an ear infection. Hopefully this is a one time thing. The doctor said she normally lets it run its course, but because of his age she wanted to put him on antibiotics, otherwise it could get worse. Luckily the antibiotics taste/smell nothing like the vitamin he has to take every day. While we were there I asked them to weigh him and he's up to 14 lbs. 5 oz.

We've been working with him to try and sit up and he's slowly getting there. He's also been getting the hang of this eating thing. We tried carrots tonight. Although you can't tell from this picture, I think it's safe to say he loved them. We even had to give him a second helping! Here he is having some more for breakfast.

The picture at the top is Luke shrieking. That's what he's been doing this week, shrieking non-stop. It's quite funny!

Quick Update

Luke has slept through the night 3 times this week! He's also fallen asleep on his stomach or at some point rolled over on to his stomach and kept sleeping! I still get nervous when I know he's sleeping that way, but if he's doing it I guess he's ok.

He's also had a little more rice cereal. He's still not loving it, but he's eaten some a couple of times.

Yesterday he was all decked out to support the team in their bid for another national championship.

Progress Report

Brad and I feel duped by the sleep training info we found in the Baby 411 book. The book lead us to believe Luke would be sleeping through the night by the 4th night, however we've been following the Ferber method for 8 nights and he continues to wake up once, sometimes twice each night. I did some further research on this method and apparently it takes weeks, not days. I think the 411 book oversimplifies, or else we're just the exception for a lot of things. So, it's a good thing we started this during the holidays when it was easier to be up at night knowing we could sleep in a bit. We'll keep trying and hopefully it will work soon!

He continues to resist eating any solid food. We tried some rice cereal too to see if maybe he just didn't like the oatmeal, but he's still uninterested or cries when you try to put it in his mouth. We're going to give him a break and try again in a few days.

Other than that we've been enjoying the last of the holiday time together. It's been nice having Brad off work for a few days in a row and we've been able to take some nice walks and even get down to Lady Bird Lake. Here we are at Mt. Bonnell on New Year's Day.
